About the easiest thing you can do on TikTok today is to post a talking head video. Just you, your phone and your words. Review your highest performing content on other platforms (Ig cough cough). Now see how you can deliver that in 15 or so secs in 1 clip with:
- a hook (3 secs)
- a development/insight (7 -10 secs)
- a Call To Action (3 secs)
EASYISH?: as with all things that look simple, there are a few key factors that you need to take into consideration. Here they are
First things first:
- Make sure your lens is clean
- Is your camera stable?
- Does it need to be stable - movement is a hook. You could deliver this walking and talking.
- Check for the best lighting - a daylight window is fine. Outdoors and cars also provide great lighting.
- Now is your background in contrast? Pale clothes on a pale background is going to look washed out.
Now how does your voice sound in the room/space?
- Good audio? Echoing? Background Noise? Use a microphone if you need one.
Where are you actually going to position yourself?
- Make sure you have left space to add text around above your head etc
- Look directly at the camera lens (top of phone) not at yourself
- Consider writing your words down first - reduces retakes - we’re aiming to be one take wonders here.
START RECORDING:

Set the timer and get ready for your 3 sec countdown. SMILE. Now start speaking. You can go back and start over until you are happy or film in 3 clips - often easier.
Try and avoid the ‘millennial pause’ that brief nano second where you are not talking before your video starts. - Remember ums and ahs will make people want to scroll on so try and be as succinct as possible.

Activate captions - so viewers with audio off know what you are saying
Overlay text - add highlights of your comments to guide the viewer thru.
Now add your video description in the captions - shove in as much SEO keywords as you can.
Check the thumbnail to make sure all your text appears in the right place, alignment, size.
Add a cover - it means viewers can scan you profile and quickly understand what you talk about.
- Save to drafts if you are batching
- Post.
